Driving Targeted Traffic to Your Website
Most of
the sites below are "traffic exchanges" which means that you
exchange page views with other webmasters at different ratios,
like for every 2 times you view a page, your page is viewed
once. The best exchanges offer 1x1 credits. The good thing
about traffic exchanges is that you know you're audience is
targeted. They are fellow webmasters with something to offer.
There are several downfalls to traffic exchanges also: limited
time, people not wanting to "lose their place" or miss another
traffic credit so they don't click; cheaters who use
automation to display pages in order to have their page shown
multiple times. The quality exchanges have solved most of
these problems by adding "incentives" such as extra clicks and
"ad bars" that enable the surfing to be paused or have the
site open in a new window so you can continue surfing. And
responsible webmasters "click unto others as they would have
done unto themselves". ;o) It's common courtesy that if you
want someone to review your offer, then you will devote the
time to review theirs.
When
using a traffic exchange, site design and load time are
extremely important. Surfers are limited to 15, 20, 30, 50 or
so seconds before they're ready to go to the next site for
another credit. Make sure that your page loads quickly and
grabs attention. This is when doorway pages come in handy
rather than your actual site, because you can create an
eye-catching, attention-getting SHORT page inviting the surfer
to open your page in new window. One of the best pages I've
ever seen on a traffic exchange simply said "Pssst, in a
hurry? How would you like to trade in all your traffic from
all your exchanges for CASH? Click here (opens in new window)
to find out more".
